What is Paper Pulp?

Paper pulp or pulp is a fibrous material made from plant fibers by different pulp processing. The main ingredients of pulp include cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pigment, resin, pectin,

and ash, etc. In general, cellulose fibers are separated chemically or mechanically from raw materials such as wood, straw, bombs, sugar cane, waste paper, and so on. . According to different ways, paper pulp can be classified into different types. For applications, paper pulp is one of the most abundant raw materials worldwide. The widest application of pulp is the manufacture of paper, in addition, man-made fibers, plastics, paints, interlayer and other fields.

Pulp Pulp Processing

There is no doubt that pulp is the raw material for paper. Pulp is made from plants with long fibers and a high percent, wood fiber is the most common type of plant fiber. Paper pulp processing usually means crushing, cooking washing, screening, bleaching, cleaning and drying of plant fibers.

There are many types of paper pulp processing, chemical pulping, mechanical pulping and chemical-mechanical pulping are three typical types among them. Take chemical pulp as an example, it has three basic procedures such as cooking pulp processing, washing pulp processing and pulp bleaching treatment. The whole set of chemical processing requires many pulp machines, such as pulp digesters, vacuum drum washers, disc filters, twin winding machines and other related equipment.

Pulp Category

Pulp has too many categories according to different methods. The specific categories are as follows:

  • By processing, chemical pulp, mechanical pulp and chemical-mechanical pulp.
  • With raw materials, wood pulp, straw pulp, bomb pulp and waste paper pulp, etc.
  • Based on pulp yield, chemical pulp (40~50%), high yield chemical pulp (50~65%), semi-chemical pulp (65~84%), chemical-mechanical pulp (85~94%) and mechanical pulp (94 ~98%).
  • By application, paper pulp for own use and market pulp.
  • By Comprehensive name, bleached sulfate softwood pulp, unbleached sulfite reed pulp, poplar ground wood pulp, etc.

Among all types of paper pulp, chemical pulp has the largest share. In 1987, the world's total output of chemical pulp reached 11,135 million tons, accounting for 71% of the total pulp production (155.86 million tons), mechanical pulp accounted for 21%, and chemical mechanical pulp had less yield because its development was relatively late, but its growth fast.

Pulp App

As for the application of pulp, different types of pulp have individual applications.

  • Mechanical wood pulp has two types: white mechanical wood pulp and brown mechanical wood pulp. White mechanical wood pulp is mainly used to make newsprint, or writing paper and printing paper with other pulps together. Brown mechanical wood pulp mainly produces rap paper and paperboard, especially industrial paperboard.
  • Sulfate Wood Pulp has two types: bleached pulp and unbleached pulp. Unbleached sulfate wood pulp is used to process kraft paper, sack paper, Kraft Liner Board, general wrapping paper, and board. Bleached sulphate wood pulp is used to process text paper, picture paper, offset paper and writing paper, etc.
  • Sulfite Wood Pulp can be divided into three types: unbleached bleached pulp and partially bleached pulp. Unbleached pulp has little lignin and colored impurities, so it is yellow in color and has tough fibers. It is mainly applied in the manufacture of medium fine printing paper, tissue paper, translucent paper and oil-resistant paper. Partially bleached paper is used to make tracing paper and parchmyn, etc. Bleached paper has a white grain, soft texture, and lower fiber strength. It is mainly used to make all kinds of fin paper.
  • Waste paper pulp is made from useless scrap paper or deck edges. Can be used to make printing paper, writing paper, cardboard and rough paper.
